The cutting disc slices through residue and opens the seed trench, working with the seed boot and gauge wheel to ensure accurate seed placement. Worn discs reduce cutting performance, push residue into the trench, and cause premature seed boot wear. Red E’s notched opener no-till disc cuts through tough residue and can also place fertilizer below seed depth for improved efficiency.

Q: Why would I want a 19″ 30-pointer notched blade?
A: Similar to a sickle section on a header, it is self-sharpening. What this means is that for the life of the disc (down to 17″”), it will stay sharp and cut through even the toughest of conditions.

A: The 19″ JD Notched Opener Disc (30 Pointer), while being one of the newest kids on the block, has many 100s of thousands of acres on it between our customers. Helping them cut through corn stalks, soy bean stubble, stripper head stubble, and more, where their OEM blade would previously have rolled over it and led to quite a bit of hairpinning. 

 

Q: When should I replace my discs?
A: Your discs should be replaced when they become dull or reach a diameter of 17″” 

 

Q: How long does this disc last?
A: Customers have found that the diameter life of the disc is similar to that of an OEM blade. However, customers have found that they will stay sharp until the end of their life instead of becoming dull halfway through the 1″ of wear an OEM blade is intended to offer. 

 

Q: What is the cost difference between this blade and others?
A: The notched blade cost is slightly increased vs OEM, meant to deal with heavy residue and loose soils better than a smooth disc!
